Is President Snow like Dumbledore?

I was originally going to just tweet this but I realized that 140 characters wouldn't be enough for an explanation behind what I'm about to say:

President Snow is the Dumbledore of The Hunger Games

If you have read The Hunger Games series than you know that president snow is a very cruel character. But what people don't realize and that I understood after watching Donald Sutherland's version of President Snow that Snow is a very diverse character.

"Hope is the only thing stronger than Fear." is a line that Snow says while talking to Seneca while in his rose garden. When I heard this line I immediately went back to the many line that Dumbledore has said throughout the Harry Potter series. At that moment Snow became a completely different character in my mind. He became a more vulnerable character. A wiser character. I realized that Snow wasn't just this cruel power hungry president. He was a person that like many others in books and in actuality became consumed by power and essentially let it get to his head. But at the same time he is scared. Every year he hosts the hunger games and tells the people of Panem that "we sacrifice your children so we don't have a repeat of the rebellion". He is supposed to be this confident idol that everyone looks up to just as our leaders in reality are. But just like in reality he has hiding something. He's afraid that out of these hunger games might come a child that will have the ability to restart a rebellion and beat him. He admits this to Seneca is the rose garden scene "Have you been to those districts? 11? 12?... I have... you wouldn't root for them either" When Katniss comes out as this strong rebellious character President Snow see's her as a threat. He knows that Districts across Panem are rooting for her to succeed. They view her as a light in their darkness. But Snow views her as the one person who could possibly take him down.

Even though we view him as this cruel person who sends kids into an arena to die. I can't help but feel sorry for him. If I could I would want to sit down with him and try to understand what's going through his mind during the hunger games and when he visits districts.

Most people wouldn't want to admit the similarities between President Snow and Dumbledore. But both these characters are so diverse that the only things different is that Dumbledore does everything he can for the good of him and his fellow wizards and President Snow does everything out of fear of being taken down by in his words "the underdogs".

If anyone truly read the books and watched the movies then you will know that Dumbledore was very wise but cryptic. It was almost as if he knew how everything was going to turn out but he refused to give Harry any insite because he knew Harry had to learn to do things on his own. He knew that Harry would give in to Voldemort and it would never end up the way Harry would have hoped. Dumbledore was always worried though. Like President Snow, he was worried that things wouldn't work out as he expected. Dumbledore was constantly worried that Harry would give up hope and give up fighting. Dumbledore knew that Harry would become, just as Katniss did, a light in the dark for the wizarding world.

There is one thing about Dumbledore that I myself find it hard to admit. That is, like President Snow, he was power hungry. Dumbledore did what he did because he knew he had power over people. He was looked to more than the ministry was. He has influence over the ministry even. He is the President Snow of the Wizarding world. They both have (had) a common goal of peace in their worlds. The difference in their plans were that while President snow had to force children into fighting, Dumbledore had volunteers willing to walk into a battlefield and fight to the death. Dumbledore knew this and he used it to his advantage.

Both these influential men had their wisdom, their power hunger, and their fears to guide them through our favourite books and movies. I hope that after reading this you will view them men in a different light and will see their similarities.

Introverts and Lemons

As an introvert I don't really like meeting new people. Actually, I don't really like people in general. But, regardless, I agree to meet new people with this notion in my head that I'm going to try to not be extremely awkward and shy. Then when I meet the person I'm trying to hard not to be award and shy I end up being obnoxious and loud and people think I'm over the top. So really, there isn't a happy medium here. I'm either shy and awkward or over the top with my personality.

Now my psychologist (yes I go see a psychologist) tells me I have to change my self talk. I'm supposed to not believe that I'm less then what I actually am. I'm supposed to believe that everyone likes me until they don't. I guess it's sort of like the whole "innocent until proven guilty" sort of ordeal. Which, I agree is right. But it's not really that easy. You have to spend all this time thinking and concentrating on how you want to portray yourself and how you don't think this person isn't judging you on your looks (which they probably are - but that's besides the point) and you have less brain capacity to concentrate on the goings on around you. It's kind of like mystic from x-men. She had to concentrate on making herself look like Jennifer Lawrence so she spent less concentrating on her surroundings.

There really is no easy way to go about in life. So I'm going to go out and start throwing lemons at people because they have lives and I don't.

Above is a really safe first try that just didn't work out

"Above" by Leah Bobet is a really good book... in the last 3-4 chapters. But before I get into that let me give you a synopsis of what the book is about.

"Matthew has loved Ariel from the moment he found her in the tunnels, her bee’s wings falling away. They live in Safe, an underground refuge for those fleeing the city Above—like Whisper, who speaks to ghosts, and Jack Flash, who can shoot lightning from his fingers.

But one terrifying night, an old enemy invades Safe with an army of shadows, and only Matthew, Ariel, and a few friends escape Above. As Matthew unravels the mystery of Safe’s history and the shadows’ attack, he realizes he must find a way to remake his home—not just for himself, but for Ariel, who needs him more than ever before."

Thank you goodreads.com for that lovely synopsis.

When I first started to read this book I was extremely confused as to what is going on. It took me about 3 weeks to read it's 368 pages. Now I have to give Leah Bobet some credit, this is her first book. But it lacks organization and drive to keep the reader pushing further into the book. If I didn't have a drive to never not finish a book I wouldn't have gotten passed chapter 1 simply because I had no idea what what going on.

As I said earlier the last 3-4 chapters are probably the best out of all 10 chapter + epilogue. Now, I understand that the last few chapters are usually the best in the book regardless. But, the rest of the book leading up to that have to be good and the reader will never get to those last good bits.

Leah Bobet has the potential to be an excellent writer. If the book had a bit more editing and was organized a bit better it has the potential to be an amazing book. I look forward to reading more of Leah Bobet's books in the future. But if all of her books are this disorganized she won't last long as a known writer. She'll fall into the cracks along with Stephanie Meyer, who is destined for oblivion (all you twilight fans might as well face that fact now).

What do I rate this book? 3 sets of bee's wings out of 5. I suggest you read it but I would get it second hand or when it's online. Don't bother paying full price for it.

Hatred of the Hair Dryer

Do you want to know what I really hate? I didn't think so but unless you stop reading this and go back to your facebook you going to find out.

Drying my hair.

I hate drying my hair for several reasons.

1) It's so incredibly loud.
You have this loud noise blaring into your ears for anywhere from 5 - 30 minutes (for me personally it's about 10-15) I've had showers that last less time then that (mostly if I'm in a rush).

2) There is nothing you can possibly do while drying your hair.
You can't listen to music because of the loudness of the hair dryer (unless you have patience to dry out your ears and use ear buds but even then you have to put the music on blast to block out the noise [I do not have this patience]). You can check facebook (unless you are more skilled with hand/hand/eye co-ordination then I am). Along with a multitude of other things.

3) Because you are just sitting there trying to get your hair dried perfectly the 5 - 30 minutes you are sat there drying feels more like 30 - 60 minutes.

4) It's bad for your hair (and the environment).
The heat from the dryer fries up your hair like no tomorrow and usually (because you were too lazy to dry your hair perfectly straight) afterword your hitting your hair with more heat from a straightening iron. (The environment thing was only added because anything electronic is not good for the environment just like anything you eat is cancerous)

Well there you have it. Four very good reasons for hating to dry my hair. Now I must go and - you guessed it - dry my hair.

Atlas of Life

I have never been so drained in my life. Throwing yourself into school 110% is a lot of work. How about we add some other things to this already heavy workload? A job? A second online some what demanding course? This is nothing. Some people go to school full time, work full time, and take care of kids. To those people I solute you because I would never be able to do it. I'm having a hard time staying away from just studying now I'm planning on adding a part-time job into the mix along with the photography course I was supposed to work on the summer. But the one thing I don't forget to do is to leave me time. Such as this weekend I'm having a Harry Potter marathon on saturday (tentative date) and I have a date on sunday. But the date is only  a movie date meaning it won't be longer then 3 hours and it's at night so I have all day to get school work done... as long as I don't get asked to work :S But I'm going to end this pointless entry after the next few sentences, drink some of my coffee and finish some of my large pile of school work. Thank god tomorrow is short.

Butt Numbing Amazement!

These past couple of day's have been tiring, crazy, exciting, stressful, and butt numbing (literally). But I'm loving every minute of it! All throughout high school I never wanted to go into the healthcare profession because it's what my parents did and what was sort of expected of me. But since being out of high school and learning about myself, my likes, dislikes, and seeing life with "brand new eyes" (tattoo reference) I was able to see that the apple really doesn't fall far from the tree. Unfortunately by the time I realized this I screwed myself over from getting into the nursing program. But I was able to get into the practical nursing program which is just as noble as Bachelor of Nursing. It's only been a couple day's and I've met so many amazing people in my class and my teachers seem to be pretty good as well. So far my favourite is Allen Anstey. Mostly because he's one of those teacher's that likes to tell jokes and knows how dry they are. So we get a good laugh out of it. I believe my excitement of doing this course has allowed me to actually sit down and do some studying when I don't even have a test coming up. This is something I would have never done before. As early and long and butt numbing (literally) I don't mind getting up in the morning to go to school because I'm working toward something I really like maybe even love (haven't decided if I want to get that deep of a relationship after just 2 days)

For a Pessimist, I'm Pretty Optimistic

If I was reading what I'm about to write a week ago I would have said "She's a fucking cracked for being happy". Mostly because a week ago I had my Aunt visiting and she usually brings me down but also because I was living a life of ignorance believing that there was only one way to solve my lovesickness which is to actually ask the guy out. So what do I do instead I man up and get the balls to tell him exactly what's on the go and what does he say to me "I'm not ready to say yes or no." or something along those lines. Most girls would obsess over this fact doing everything possible to get this guy to finally say yes. But me, I'm not most girls. I sit back and say whatev's he'll figure it out I'm amazing eventually. It maybe too late but that's his own fault. This is the way I see it... tomorrow I'm moving back in town, I start my course in less then 2 weeks, I'm going to have the apartment to myself (although I will miss my roommate like crazy), and I have this amazing friendship with a guy who I adore as a person. So what could possibly go wrong? I'm gonna stay positive. I've lived a life of sadness for far too long. It's my time to be happy.

B.O.Y. Hayley Williams Gives Great Advice

B.O.Y. : "Beware of You"

This very simple statement created by the lead singer of the band Paramore, Hayley Williams, has become the motto for thousands of teens. But what does this mean? Well according to Hayley's twitter on October 24, 2010 "BOY means “Beware of You”… Be aware of your power. We have the choice to live positively or in our own destruction.”* This in my Personal opinion is probably the best advice a person can be given. Everyone has the power to allow things to or not to happen to them. I've decided that I want to live by this statment to the fullest. In the past I had some things happen to me and when I look back I realize that if I had been smarter about it then the situation might have been different or my reaction might have been different. So I challenger each you (which is probably no one) to live by B.O.Y. even just for a day. And if you already do leave me a comment on how thankful (or unthankful) you are to know this little piece of advice and how it may have changed your life.

My Best Friends Girl

I had this big thing written about social networking and how it's affecting dating but I didn't like it so I scrapped the idea and this is what I came up with instead:

When is the right time to take your best friends girl? Or even a friends girl? And is there some sort of cycle that is caused by betraying a friend?

I have this friend, let's call him C, well C was friend with this guy, will call him D. Well D was going out with a girl and they had been going out for a while but then all of sudden C started getting close with this girl as if getting ready to steal her away from D. Although nothing happened between C and the girl, when D found out he was furious and ended the friendship for about 9 months.

Well D didn't get with anyone for a long time. But D had this other friend, we'll call him J. And J was dating a girl an they had been going out for a while but then all of a sudden D started getting close with this girl... sound familiar? Well there's a twist in this side of the story. D get's the girl*.

*2 weeks after he breaks up with her.

So what I'm wondering will the cycle continue? Will J start getting close to a friends girl and try to steal her away? Or will the chain just end there. And are D's actions justified because J and the girl were already broken up even tho they were friends.

I sometimes wonder if relationships are worth the pain and suffering and then I see my parents and realize that without pain and suffering there wouldn't be happiness there would just be content.

Come on and do it, it's time to free what's in your soul!

It's 10:07 PM on a Thursday night and what am I doing? Listening to the spice girls. Tonight I went to the local theatre to see the play Toronto Adventures. Haven't heard of it? Well it's about a Newfie (don't you be using that language around us or we'll smack ya around.) actress who goes to Toronto to try and make it big. That's all I'm tellin' ya because I don't want to ruin it. But, I will tell ya it's friggin' hilarious! The main character, Lindsay, kind of reminds me of, well, me. She's known to those around her as being sorta weird but no matter what she sticks to her true self. But unlike Lindsay I don't have the bravery to move to a foreign (yes I just said foreign) land like Toronto to full fill my life's dream (which would be photography) so I stick to my little St. John's life as an LPN (I'm start the course in September). I'm not saying I'm not excited about it because I am but I dunno if it's what I want to do for the rest of my life. I want to travel the world and experience everything I possibly can. But for now I'll be happy that I'm able to be as free as a bird... sorta.

Finding Candyland

I sitting here at work while my boss is gone on her dinner break thinking about the positive things that have been happening to me lately. Thing time last year I was in a relationship, I had a ton of friends (I'm pretty sure I had gotten over the mishap of 2010 at this point), I didn't think anything could get any better or worse. Little did I know a few days later my life would start to take a downward spiral straight to the toilet. I was broken up with over text messaged, threatened to stop speaking to my (at the time) best friends and ex-roomies, and my other best friends stop talking to me for one reason or another. Of course all this happened over a 4 month period but it was just piling on and I didn't think that it was ever going to get easier or better. So over the 4 month period I turned to the 5 (now 3) people that could always get me through anything; the members of Paramore. With their upbeat music and meaningful lyrics I was able to find a song that fit with every problem I had to deal with and with every song always came a positive ending things will get better. I had a hard time believing at first. But if Paramore's lead singer and lyricist Hayley Williams could get past everything she sings about then so could I. So here it is August 2011 and I have finally reached candyland. I still have a select friends that have been my friends since as long as I can remember, but I also have a few new friends. My roommate Nicole is amazing. We clicked right away and I dearsay that we will be friends for a very long time even if she moves back to Nova Scotia. Then there my friend Jonathon from Marystown who did have a very good first impression on me at first but he's grown into someone that I feel I can talk to and have a good conversation with. And then theres Chris. Chris is very special to me. No we're not dating (yet) but he is more then I could ever ask for. He is someone I can turn to that won't just sing lyrics at me (no offence Paramore). To be entirely honest I could probably blame him for about 75% of my happiness. Losing him would be a major blow. But as for now I'm happy and would love to remind everyone that just because you're having a rouch time now doesn't mean it's going to last forever... it can only get better.

The Fear: Guy got balls for a reason. Maybe they should use them.

Boy.
-noun
-a male child, from birth to full growth, esp. one less than 18 years of age.
-a young man who lacks maturity, judgment, etc.
(Dictionary.com)

What you see above is the definition of a boy. See the second definition? This is the nice way of saying guy's are assholes that you can never understand. We grow up our lives being told that one of these days a boy is going to "court" us and then eventually we will marry, have a few kids and live happily ever after. At least that's what the story books and our parents tell us. But this my darlings is not the case. We quickly find out when we reach the age of maturity and are about to head out into the big world of opportunities that the guy probably won't "court" you at all. The women now-a-days are the ones who "court". We spend countless hours on end stressing about how we look and making sure we look "perfect" just in case we may happen to see the guy we're interested in. As much work as that is we now have to apparently approach the guy first as well? When do the guy get to do any work? Oh yeah he proposes. With out luck ladies we'll be the one's doing that now too. I hate to be old fashioned but "Hello!" Girls are too self-conscious to talk to guy. I don't care how show you are. If you don't talk to me I'm going to assume you have no idea who I am. Boy's, you need to grow some balls and talk to us. Society stereotypes men as being strong, not afraid of anything types. While women, are fragile flowers that are better left barefoot and pregnant. So if your going to make jokes about how women are better off in the kitchen like we were in olden days, you better well stick to tradition and open your mouth and say something to us. Because I'm not about to open my mouth and say something to you and get rejected. I'm not that type of girl.

Maybe this blog made no sense. Maybe you agree or disagree with it. But there are always two sides to the story and coming from my end when a guy says the good guys come in last well maybe that because their not going for the good girls. Because guess what guys, the good girls come in last too.

Dear Blogisphere,

Have you ever been lonely? Me 2. I'm currently sitting in my living room on my couch/bed for the night and thinking about how this place is crazily empty. I should be able to come out into the living room and see Adam playing Xbox. But guess what. I'm in the living room watching Camp Rock 2. But even after they return tomorrow I'm still gonna be somewhat lonely. I've been lonely since my ex broke up with me. I know what your thinking "Jennifer, it's been over 2 weeks. Get over him!" But you don't even know how hard it is or maybe you do. But never-the-less I still have feelings for him and to be entirely honest I don't know if I'm going to be able to get over him until I get some closure. We've barely talked since the breakup. I think that hurts more then anything. Anyway, I'm gonna stop this mushfest before I start to get upset. I'm getting majorly tired and I have work tomorrow. Goodnight.

Dear Blogisphere,

My life have been busy busy busy and I've also been away from the internet meaning no blogs. But I'm back and here's what's been happening:

1) I got a job at Walmart
2) I quite my job at Dollarama
3) I'm friends with Kandice again
4) I went to St. Pierre
5) I sprained my foot in St. Pierre
6) I finished Mockingjay

And that's about it. I may elaborate later.

Dear Blogisphere,

I haven't written in the past couple of days because I've been busy ready Mockingjay or I've been very sick. But here I am ready to tell you what I've been up to. Well, I've been working a lot and that's about it either working or reading or sleeping. Or watching sex and the city. But I've also been thinking. Should I patch things up with an old friend? She keeps popping up on my msn (I didn't add her either she added me or my macbook msn is fucked up) and then on my youtube subscription box. It's hard. We were very close. But she just walked out and never spoke to me again. Okay so I understand that she was worried that I was angry but it's been what? 3 months. I'm obviously over it. I'm still a bit bitter and I kind of obsess over it. But I'm starting to think maybe the obsession is because I'm not ready to lose her. She was like my sister. I'm starting to wonder if I should take the ball and give it one more shot. It would be over an email of course but why not? Maybe it's time I gave it another try. If she doesn't respond well then I know it's over and I'll stop obsessing over it.

Dear Blogisphere,

Well I'm alive! Lauren's friend Julie picked me up so I didn't have to go by myself. I had so much fun too. I got a bit tipsy but not drunk. But of course the one thing on my mind was how I would rather be "watching" a movie with Alex. This is completely unhealthy. I should just try to get over him. I haven't even really talked to him. All I know is I want him back. I kind of want to ask him out again but I don't know if I should. I need to ask my friends about this and no one is around to talk to. Oh well I guess I'll just have to depend on sex and the city to get me through the night.

August 21, 2010

Dear Blogisphere,

So today not as boring. I went and got my pictures done off for my photography course and I went to see Scott Pilgrim vs. The World with Adam. Tonight I'm going downtown, so I should  have a time there. I haven't talked to Alex tho and it hurts. I know I should be getting over him but I can't. I don't feel like it's over. Not yet anyway. I still feel like we have a chance. We just have to wait I guess. Oh man. I'm super tired. I hope I wake up when I go downtown. I'm kind of scared because I'm going down by myself and meeting my cousin and I've never done that before. I'm sure everything will be okay. If there is no blog tomorrow you know something happened and you should probably call the police. I'll let you go on with your life now.

August 20, 2010 #2

Dear Blogisphere,

So it's Friday night, I have no work tomorrow and what am I doing? Sitting on my couch watching Family channel. I know I'm so cool, your very jealous. Don't worry, I know I'm pathetic. But what else could I be doing? Playing D&D with my apparently non-existent friends. Adam went to the gym after I got home from work. That was about 5:30, it's now 8:30. Druken is working till 9 I believe and even so he'll probably already have plans. And Lauren has plans with her Family. So I'm stuck home alone bored. Which means you've just wasted time out of your boring life to read my boring blog. Hopefully tomorrow I'll have something more interesting for you to read.

Dear Blogisphere,

Ever tried to fall asleep at night but couldn't because you had a certain someone on your mind? Yeah it's a pretty common thing especially amongst girls my age. The opposite sex is such a confusing species. I wish someone would try a sex translation book. You know like the english to french books they have you get for when you go back to school. It would make my situation a whole lot easier. Then I could tell if he still has feelings for me. Life really fucks us up sometimes especially when it comes to matters of the heart. It goes "Oh wait (insert name here) is happy something must be done about this." and then wammo you're left with a broken heart. But even tho he broke my heart I still want him back and I probably would take him back in an second if he asked. But then again I'd probably make him fight for me too. Just to make sure I wouldn't get hurt again. I guess we'll just have to see. But I'll promise to keep you posted.

Rain, rain, come back to play.

Coming to you live from the beautiful city of Ottawa, Ontario. The capital of this glorious country of Canada.

I was having a conversation with a friend of mine today about how I think the rain is a magical thing and could solve all of lifes problems. I know what your thinking. Rain is a pain in the ass and Sun is a glorious invention by matter in space or the Greek gods, whatever you choose. But what I never got to explain to her is how it could do the impossible. Well say we had one giant storm over the entire earth. As creepy as that would be it means that poor countries like Africa and places with little water would have it. The water would help the, by hydrating them and allow them to grow food to eat. So we can check starvation off our list. With an abundance of water it will allow companies and factories and towns and cities to use the water for electricity and maybe they would increase the look into having water powered cars. This will cause our economy to rise, the war to end and to help global warming. So there's another 3. But wait... How can it stop the war? Well you see there are two things people want; money and power. Well if the economy rises and we no longer use oil the government won't have much more need to fight. So those are a few ways rain can be an amazing thing.

Rain gives me hope every single time it happens. Whether it's a light sprinkle or a full on thunderstorm. But it truly is a magical thing. So next time it's raining go out and stand it with just your t-shirt and jeans and feel the magical and then you'll understand how magical the rain is.

Until next time,
Jenn
